I have been greatly encouraged over the past several
years to see somewhat of a resurgence in theologically rich Christian worship
music. For a decade or more it seemed that the "market" was
flooded with lyrically shallow emotionally driven music. Finding good
solid lyrics with a more contemporary arrangement was difficult. Over the
past several years however church based ministries like Red Mountain Music, Indelible Grace Music, and Sovereign
Grace Music have been producing excellent music that is also lyrically
sound. Many of the songs produced by these ministries teach Biblical
truths neglected in much of Christian music today. Truths such as the
substitution, atonement, justification, sanctification, propitiation, etc.
Last week I purchased the latest release from
Sovereign Grace Music "Come Weary Saints." The 12 songs on this
CD all focus on the God's character in the midst of suffering and range from
fast contemporary to slow almost hymn like. This past Sunday we sang
"As Long As You Are Glorified" a song Job himself could have written.
Another great song (one of my favorites on the CD) is "The Deep, Deep Love
of Jesus" which is actually an old hymn which was rearranged by Bob Kauflin who also added a new
verse or two. Another favorite is "So I Will Trust You" a more
upbeat song. Here are the lyrics:
You put the stars into space
Yet You descended, You have befriended
Those who had hated Your name, just like me
King of Glory, I know You love me
So I will trust You, yes I will trust You
God Almighty, You have saved me
So I will trust You, yes I will trust in You
Lord over nations, King of Creation
Heaven and earth bow to You
I am Your child, I’ve been reconciled
With tender affection You drew me to You
The One who has formed me and shaped me
I will rejoice and will sing
For the One who has made me has saved me
I would highly recommend the CD to anyone who appreciates good quality
Christian music (both musically and lyrically). For a limited time you
can actually download the song "I Have a Shelter" for free here
on the Sovereign Grace website. The SG website also has a resource
page where you can search for songs by Biblical themes. Music
